Genre Research for final film idea

The genre of our film is Horror/Thriller. In order to make our film fit into this genre, we needed to do some research into what the genre consists of. Horror/Thriller films usually include;
- A killer/antagonist - usually this is stereotyped to be male
- A victim - usually this is stereotyped to be a female
- Dark lighting
- Suspense/danger
- Unsettling non diagetic music
- Fast paced editing shots to create tension

Setting;
- Usually consists of being a deserted house/venue.
- The setting is usually a real setting that could possibly occur in real life. This adds to the fear within the audience.
- Heavily damaged and decorated in a dark, gloomy fashion

A good example of the typical type of setting found within this sort of genre, is the mansion from the Woman in Black. The Mansion fits the above criteria perfectly and really adds to the scary feel that the film is wanting to create among the audience.
